Safeguarding policy

Our commitment

One True Message Foundation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of everyone who comes into contact with the charity. We recognise our responsibility to take all reasonable steps to protect people from harm, discrimination and abuse.

This matters particularly in our work. We speak with members of the public on the street and online, and we support people who are exploring Islam or have recently become Muslim, some of whom may be young or going through a difficult time.

Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to our trustees and volunteers, and to anyone else who carries out work on behalf of the charity.

Key principles

• The welfare of children and adults at risk is paramount.
• Everyone, regardless of age, disability, sex, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation or identity, has the right to equal protection from harm.
• Working in partnership with individuals, families and other organisations is essential to keeping people safe.
• All concerns and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to promptly and appropriately.

What we expect of our volunteers

• Treat everyone they meet through our work with respect and courtesy.
• Never put pressure on anyone to make a religious decision.
• Report any safeguarding concern to the charity straight away.

Reporting a concern

If you have a safeguarding concern about any of our activities, a volunteer or someone you have met through our work, please email onetruemessagefoundation@gmail.com with “Safeguarding” in the subject line. All reports will be treated in confidence and dealt with urgently.

Our trustees will report serious incidents to the Charity Commission and, where appropriate, to the police or the local authority.
