Welcome to Islam

A place to begin for new Muslims

Welcome to Islam is a guided support hub for new Muslims and people exploring Islam in the UK. It helps people learn how to pray, understand what Muslims believe and get support from Muslims near them, step by step.

A project of One True Message Foundation, registered charity 1206615.

What it is

Becoming Muslim is the start of a lot of learning. New Muslims often need practical help with things that born Muslims take for granted, such as making wudu, learning the words of the prayer or finding a mosque where they will feel welcome. Some feel shy about asking.

Welcome to Islam brings that help together in one place. Everything on the site is built upon the Qur'an and the Sunnah, and it is written for people who are starting from the beginning.

Who it is for

  • People who have recently become Muslim
  • People who are exploring Islam
  • New Muslims who need practical help
  • Reverts who may feel shy asking questions

How it works

  1. The guide on the home page asks where you are right now: recently Muslim, wanting to become Muslim, still exploring, a Muslim who needs support, or struggling and needing to speak to someone.
  2. It asks a few questions about what you need, and about your gender, age group and country.
  3. It then points you to the right next step. That might be a free Qur'an, personal support, a welcoming mosque near you, or BecomeMuslim if you would like help to take your shahada.

What you will find there

  • Your first 30 days. Five steps in order: the shahada on day one, wudu on day three, Surah Al-Fatihah on day five, your first prayer in week two and a mosque visit in week three.
  • Learn to pray. Lessons on wudu and salah for complete beginners.
  • Common questions. Plain answers to the questions new Muslims ask most.
  • A mentor. You can ask for a vetted volunteer mentor of the same gender, matched by language, stage and city.
  • Find a mosque. A directory of UK mosques, searchable by area, with directions and contact details.
  • A free welcome box. In partnership with New Muslim Box, new Muslims can request a box with a translated Qur'an, a prayer mat, prayer clothing, Zamzam water and guides, posted free.
  • A WhatsApp companion. A private chat for questions, answered by AI and supported by the team.

If you create an account, the site keeps track of your progress on your own path. You do not need one to use the guide.

How you can help

If you know someone who has recently become Muslim, Welcome to Islam is a good place to send them. If someone has become Muslim with you, the site has a form where you can submit their details to the team. Practising Muslims who would like to mentor new Muslims can get in touch about volunteering.
