AskIslam

Ask a question about Islam on WhatsApp

AskIslam is a WhatsApp chat for clear, sourced answers about Islam. You can ask the basics, the hard questions and the awkward ones, and get an answer in plain language that cites the Qur'an and hadith.

A project of One True Message Foundation, registered charity 1206615.

What it is

AskIslam gives people somewhere to ask about Islam privately and at a time that suits them, on an app many of them already use. It is free and open around the clock.

Answers are written by an AI language model. According to the AskIslam privacy notice, that model is Google's Gemini. The answers draw on the Qur'an, authentic hadith and well-known scholarly works. For complex personal matters, AskIslam points people to a qualified scholar.

Who it is for

AskIslam is for anyone who is curious about Islam. Critical questions, doubts and questions comparing Islam with other religions are all welcome, and nobody is lectured. The service is not intended for children under 13.

How to use it

  1. Go to askislam.co.uk and choose Open WhatsApp. There is no separate app to install and no account to make.
  2. Send your question in your own words.
  3. Get a plain-language answer grounded in the Qur'an and authentic hadith, usually within seconds.

If an answer looks wrong, you can tell the team through the report form. Every report is read by a real member of the team.

Privacy

To answer you, AskIslam stores your WhatsApp number and your messages. The privacy notice explains that messages are shared only with the services needed to run the chat (WhatsApp, Google and the database provider), that your information is not sold, and that you can ask for your conversations to be deleted. Please read the full privacy notice before you start.

Going further

If you would like to read the Qur'an for yourself, you can request a free copy through FreeQurans. If you are thinking about becoming Muslim and would like to talk to a person, BecomeMuslim can arrange that.
